NEWS FLASH  Montreal 2015 a Success!

The Basketball Academy for Girls 2015 Montreal Tour was considered a resounding success as the team finished with a surprising 6-1 record. They went 3-1 against high school teams and 3-0 against club teams. Fortunately, out of the 4 high school games, 2 games allowed us to give our younger players more opportunities to show what they could do on the court. And while there were some players who didn't use the opportunity to shine, there were others who did. All in all, there was not one player who would say that they didn't get sufficient time to prove their worth to the coaching staff. During weekend tournament play, we competed against Brookwood, Centennial and MDJ LaSalle. Great contributions were received throughtout the tournament from Demiqua Daniels, SiYaunne Hall and Anna Gilliatt

NEWS FLASH  2014 Montreal Tour a Success!

The Bermuda Select Under-14 Girls Basketball team continued their winning streak with 2 straight wins in the DJ Sports Club Round Robin Tournament. In Game 1, they played against host, DJ Sports Club. Bermuda was reminded of the physical play they would encounter, and they stepped up to the challenge. It didn't always result in positive results, but it was good to see that none of the players backed down. The first half was low scoring, but with some lineup changes and adjustments defensively, Bermuda were able to come out on top with a 34-22 win. Player of the Game was Demiqua Daniels, with honorable mentions going to Inshan-nae Smith & Nya Heyliger.Game 2 was against AGBU which was quite physical, resulting in injuries to both teams. Both teams played hard, but Bermuda, throughout the whole game, was able to create offense from its pressure defense. This resulted in a 36-19 win.The Bermuda High scorers were Demiqua Daniels, Emily Hellam & Zariah Amory all with 10 points. The Bermuda players of the game were Emily Hellam for her offensive explosion and Ember Butterfield for her defensive tenacity. The final game tested the team's mental and physical toughness. One, they had never played 3 games in one day before, and two, they went up against Sun Youth, the best overall team (in terms of talent) in the tournament. Bermuda actually took an early lead in the game, but Sun Youth made a defensive adjustment and Bermuda was unable to counter, thus ending its winning streak with a 34 - 20 loss. Jade Stewart was named Player of the Game.

The girls came away with a second place finish in the tournament (2-1) and 3-3 overall for the tour.
